It was announced yesterday (June 17) that the celebrity chef had died at the age of 55. It’s thought her death was sudden, after Burrell was discovered unresponsive in her New York apartment. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burrell was best known for hosting TV shows like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and for being co-host of Worst Cooks in America, which ran for a whopping 28 seasons.

It’s believed that she suffered a cardiac arrest, per a 911 call obtained by PEOPLE, but the Office of Chief Medical Examiner has not officially confirmed her cause of death.

Burrell is survived by her husband four years Sturart Claxton and her son Javier.

Just a few days before her death, Burrell shared a smiley photo with New York icon known as ‘The Green Lady of Brooklyn’ to her Instagram page.

Burrell penned next to the sweet selfie: “I ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today!! I’m not going to lie- I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!!”

What was once a joyful post how now been inundated with condolence messages.

 

One of her fans wrote: “This can’t be true. Chef Anne you were vivacious, hilarious, full of life and reminded me of my Mom. I’m so so sorry. Rest with the Angels in Heaven and cook up a storm for us.”

“Rip Anne. You brought so much light to Food Network. Worst Cooks is still one of my favorite shows,” said another.

Somebody else penned in tribute to the late chef: “I’ll always tuck my finger in when using a knife because of you! Fly high Anne. There’s a new star shining bright tonight.”

“You will be missed tremendously! Sending love to all family and friends,” a different person wrote.

In a statement shared by Burrell’s family she was described as ‘a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend’.

“Her smile lit up every room she entered,” the moving statement continued. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world.

“Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
