Carrie Underwood was just as giddy as the screaming female fans in the audience, visibly thrilled and unable to hide her admiration for the young performer’s energy. Singing Bonnie Raitt’s “Something To Talk About” with confidence and natural charm, John captivated both the judges and the crowd.
John Foster may have won over the American Idol judges with a special slice of home. However, it’s undeniably his voice that has kept the Louisiana native in the competition week after week. Specifically his Top 12 performance of Randy Travis’ “I Told You So” had judge Carrie Underwood bursting with pride. As the competition pool narrows, each performance is more important than the last. And Foster proved why he’s a fan favorite with tonight’s rendition of a Bonnie Raitt classic.
John Foster Once Again Dazzles ‘American Idol’ Judges
For Ladies Night on American Idol, John Foster selected Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 hit “Something to Talk About.”
Tonight’s theme paid tribute to iconic women in music, with country star Miranda Lambert serving as mentor to the remaining 10 contestants. The 38-time ACM Award winner also celebrated 20 years of her breakout hit “Kerosene.”
With his powerful vocals and traditional country sound, Foster has established himself as a season 23 frontrunner. He made quite the impression during his audition, needing host Ryan Seacrest’s assistance to haul in coolers of Cajun food for the judges.
Founded by his grandparents in 1982, Foster’s family runs Benoit’s Country Meat Block butcher shop in Addis, near the Louisiana capital of Baton Rouge.
“To have those judges appreciate that and enjoy it meant a lot to not just John Foster, but to myself and our whole family,” Foster’s father, John “Buddy” Foster Benoit Jr., told a local media outlet.
John Foster Clears Up “Misinformation”
Any time you’re in the public eye, you run the risk of people you’ve never met filling in the blanks of your life. Recently, American Idol finalist John Foster took to Facebook to address some of the more persistent rumors surrounding his time on the show. For example, some viewers believe he is related to country star Dwight Yoakum, and that Yoakum had inked him a deal with Sugar Hill Records.
“I’m not related to Dwight Yoakam, nor am I currently signed under any record label,” Foster clarified in a Facebook post.
He continued, “If you see something about me that’s not from my page (with the blue checkmark), there’s a chance that it may not be true! I hope this helps y’all to know me better as a person now that y’all know more about my music.”
